Sneaky Santa!

Christmas Eve has started to become a day full of fun traditions. Since Jared and I were first married we have been able to participate in a sub-for-santa opportunity either by ourselves or just recently the last 2 years with his family. This year a family was found by Lance and Mishaun. Their next door neighbor is a friend with a woman through work who recently is going through a divorce. Unfortunatley her husband has abandoned her and the kids and left them with nothing. The family has two 9 year old twins, Randy and Alicia. It took awhile to get information about the family since we wanted to do it without the mother knowing. We kept waiting and waiting until about the week before Christmas Mishaun's neighbor finally told her that a family wanted to do Christmas for her family. When Angela, the mother heard that, she cried. The mother (Angela) really only gave us sizes for the clothes and said they were in need of blankets. She said her kids would really like anything but we had the neighbor find out what the kids really wanted but would never ask for... a Nintendo DS. Mishaun said that a set of Sunday clothes for the children would be nice since they only have one set (the girl has one dress that the neighbors gave her). The little girl also has a shadow on her brain. Her primary care doctor wants the mom to take her to a specialist but the mom doesn't have the $150 dollars for the initial visit. The little girl is worried that she might have a brain tumor since she has seen her mother go through cancer twice. Mishaun thought that they didn't have heating not because they don't have a unit that works, but that they can't afford to turn it on.Jared and I were able to get some Sunday Clothes for the girl, a couple toys for the kids, and some gift certificates. We got together with the rest of Jareds family Christmas Eve and headed over to their home. Mishaun's neighbor was able to let us in while they were at a family Christmas Party.I really enjoy doing this every year now. I know it brings our family closer together as we serve others. I hope that we can continue this tradition each year.
